By 2020, we imagined that everyone would be able to travel even to space. However, in reality, we can’t even visit our neighboring countries. Instead, we can’t even go out of our homes or we are advised not to go out. We spend time in the space called ‘home’ more than ever before, and the covid-19 situation doesn’t seem to get better any time soon. I couldn’t help but wonder how I can engage with the reality as an artist and how I can artistically reflect the reality in my work.
Therefore, I would like to tell you all to explore the places you live in. Then let’s make a travel guide book about the trip so others can travel your place through the virtual world. Let’s re-discover the time and memories accumulated in your home and share with people around the world. This is travel to a personal space as well as to a person’s memory and history. It is travel without physical movement but with our imagination. I’d like you to be the guide for your home. Please introduce the stories about your places either the way they are or using your imagination. And show us the way travel guide books do. Let’s start the imaginary travel in the new perspective on the place we belong to. I’ll start with mine. Before we travel to a new place, we find information about the place from travel guide books and look forward to the trip. I hope you feel the same way when you look at my guide to my apartment. Soon, you will be able to visit me after we overcome this situation.
